  • Grand Lake: Though boat fishing is often the go-to at Grand Lake, shore-bound anglers can still find excellent catches at Point Park. In early summer, Colorado Parks and Wildlife stock this spot, offering prime opportunities for casting a line from the docks.   • Lake Granby: Early mornings and late evenings are prime times to reel in salmon and rainbow trout at Lake Granby. Prefer shore fishing? Sunset Point and Stillwater campgrounds are particularly fruitful, especially during the summer months. To get out on the water, rent a boat from Beacon Landing Marina or Indian Peaks Marina.
  • Monarch Lake: In 2022, an angler broke a 75-year Colorado record for catching the largest brook trout at Monarch Lake. Whether paddling on a canoe (Monarch is a non-motorized lake) or casting from the shoreline, you'll have ample opportunity to reel in bows, browns and brook trout with the backdrop of towering summits and vibrant yellow blooms along the water's edge.
  • Shadow Mountain Lake: A prime Grand Lake fishing destination for the early season (around May and June), Shadow Mountain Lake is abundant with big brown trout and elusive lake trout. Drop a line and relax while gazing at Rocky Mountain National Park peaks.
  • Williams Fork Reservoir: Known for its populations of northern pike and rainbow trout, boaters find success along the deep channels at Williams Fork Reservoir near Parshall. Shore anglers can set up shop at productive spots near the dam and the inlet.
  • Colorado River: Uncover healthy trout and breathtaking landscapes at Colorado River fishing spots. Dip a line at the easily accessible stretch below Shadow Mountain Reservoir, the rugged and adventurous Byers Canyon or the renowned Pumphouse near Kremmling with prime wade fishing and sweeping canyon views.
  • Fraser River: The Fraser River is one of the best spots to land impressive trout up to 20 inches in size. Cast from the Fraser River Trail, U.S. Forest Service campgrounds and the lush canyon below Tabernash.
  • Blue River: Abundant with rainbow trout, the Blue River is a Gold Medal fishery that winds through scenic ranch land in Silverthorne and Kremmling. Anglers flock to its public access points to fish clear waters, casting from shore or exploring runs by canoe or kayak.

Fishing License Information

A Colorado fishing license is required for every angler over 16 years old. Children under 16 do not need a fishing license but may take only half the legal limit. Buy yours online or get licenses in person at the Conoco station on Hwy. 34 in Grand Lake, the Colorado Parks & Wildlife Office in Hot Sulphur Springs and other locations throughout the county. The CPW Office is also a great spot to get detailed answers to questions about fishing locally.
